How to manually configure Windows 2000 Dial up Networking This document assumes that you already have another dial up Internet connection with another provider and that Dial Up Networking and the TCP/IP Protocol are installed on your computer. If you do not already have another dial up Internet connection on your system you are advised to download the customised configuration program here. This document will help you manually configure Windows 2000 to connect to RYA Online using Dial-Up Networking. Please read the entire document before attempting to connect. Creating and configuring a dial up connection to RYA Online To configure a dial up network connection to RYA Online. Double click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and launch Network and Dial-Up Connections. Double click on the Make New Connection icon, to create a dial up icon for accessing RYA Online. Click Next. On the Network Connection Type screen, tick the Dial-up to the Internet option and click Next. This launches the Internet Connection Wizard. Tick the option I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN) and click Next. On the Setting up your Internet Connection screen tick the I connect through a phone line and modem option and click Next. Now you select the modem you wish to connect with. (Note if you have only one modem driver installed, you may not be prompted to select your modem, in which case jump to the next section). If you have more than one modem installed, click on the drop down box and find your modem listed. Then click on Next. Fill in the telephone number for your modem to dial. Set the Area Code as 0845 and set the Telephone Number as 028 8899. In the Country/region name and code drop down box select United Kingdom (44) and tick the Use area code and dialing rules box. Note: To access RYA Online's system you must have Caller Line Identification (CLI) turned on. (If you have this turned off by default on your phone, you can temporarily turn it on when dialling RYA Online's system by adding the code 1470 before the number to dial). The easiest way to do this is set the Area Code as 1470 and set the Telephone Number as 0845 028 8899. Click on the Advanced button and then on the Addresses tab. Under the DNS Server Address section tick the option Always use the following. Set the Primary DNS Server as 195.26.232.1 and set the Alternate DNS Server as 195.26.232.2 then click the OK button. This takes you back to the previous screen, click on the Next button to proceed. On the Internet account logon information screen set the User Name as RYA Online and leave the password blank. Click on the Next button. Set the Connection Name to RYA Online and click Next. Tick the option No for Do you want to set up an internet mail account now? and click on the Next button. Untick the To connect to the Internet immediately, select this box and then click Finish box and then click on Finish. You have successfully created a Dial up connection to RYA Online. Connecting to RYA Online Double click on the RYA Online icon. Click on the Dial button. You will see the following progress box: The status will change from Dialing to Connecting and finally Verifying User name and Password. You should end up with a connection box confirming you are connect to the Internet. You are now connected; you can use your internet software to access the World Wide Web, email, Newsgroups and download files via FTP.
